CAD and BIM Documentation

We firmly believe that the most appropriate tool should be used for the job at hand. To that end, we use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit Structure and the software included in the Autodesk Building Design Suite and Civil Infrastructure Suite.

AutoCAD is a well proven software package for the drafting of construction documentation and we still use it extensively. Over the past few years, Building Information Modelling (BIM) has surpassed traditional drafting software in functionality and potential project benefit at the planning and documentation stage.

What is BIM?

BIM is a building design methodology characterised by the creation and use of coordinated, internally consistent computable information to create a three dimensional model of a building project. The elements that make up a BIM model are created and assigned accurate material properties such as material type, thickness, mass, height and weight.

Project phases can be entered in to the BIM database to accurately model the building project from commencement of construction, to the facility management phase of the completed building. The life cycle and costs of the building for its design life can be captured with appropriate use of BIM methodology. During the design and construction phase alone, BIM can help improve clash detection, accurate quantity estimation and waste reduction.
