Modular Building Design and Certification for Rio Tinto
Client:
Rhodes Projects & Yangzhou Tonglee Reefer Container Co. Ltd (TLC)
Location:
North West, Western Australia
RSA have been engaged as structural engineering design and approval consultant since 2010 for the Chinese modular building supplier TLC. We have reviewed and assisted the design, fabrication and installation of over 1000 mining accommodation buildings supplied to Rio Tinto.
The modular buildings have been designed to comply with all relevant Australian standards, in particular the requirement to withstand wind speeds up to 290km/h. Buildings have been successfully installed throughout the Pilbara in sites such as Cape Lambert, Panawonica, Hope Downs and Yandi.
In 2012 RSA was commissioned to assist in developing a prefabricated structural and foundation design with TLC for the "Nammuldi" 833 room camp expansion located at Brockman 4. Rio Tinto's first venture into developing a two storey accommodation village in Australia.
We are currently in the process of finalising the next modular two storey accommodation development at Yandi. The emphasis of this project was to develop engineering design solutions to reduce the costly site installation times and labour previously associated with such infrastructure. The final design will see a unique fully pre-fabricated walkway, stair and accommodation system be constructed on the site to provide an additional 500 rooms in the camp by the end of 2013.
